Assam Institute of Management at a glance
ESTABLISHMENT AND GOVERNANCE
A keen desire to establish a premier management education institute in Assam, akin to the IIMs but with a regional focus, culminated in the founding of the Assam Institute of Management by the Government of Assam on 7th January, 1988 as an autonomous society of the State Government. Probably, it is the only autonomous State Government Management Institute in the country.
The Assam Institute of Management (AIM) operates under the aegis of a Governing Body, chaired ex-officio by the Hon’ble Minister of Education, Assam. The Director of AIM serves as the Member Secretary. The Governing Body is composed of distinguished members and nominees, including the Commissioner/Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, representatives from the Transformation & Development Department, Industries & Commerce Department, PWD, and the Director of Higher Education (Assam). Additionally, esteemed representatives from prestigious institutions such as IITG, IIMS, NEC Shillong, Gauhati University, NRL, FINER, and Premier Cryogenics Ltd. are included.
Since its inception, the Governing Body has been graced by several eminent personalities. Throughout its journey, AIM has immensely benefited from the guidance, oversight, and support of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma, the present Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam and former Education Minister of Assam.
VISION OF AIM
The vision of the Assam Institute of Management (AIM) is to be a vibrant, best-in-class management institute, nationally acclaimed and globally networked. AIM is committed to becoming a leader in management education, consultancy, training, research, creativity, and innovation, and a distinct hub for industry-academia interface.
ACADEMIC OFFERINGS AT AIM
Presently, AIM offers a 2-year full-time MBA Programme designed by an Academic Council under the Government of Assam and affiliated to Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU). It stands out as one of the unique programs in the country, employing a continuous evaluation system along with regular feedback to enhance the educational experience. The institute provides a robust platform for real-life input, emphasizing participants’ communication skills, self-development, and ethical human values. AIM’s ultimate goal is to develop an appropriate human capital infrastructure to meet the growing developmental needs of the strategically located and resource-rich North Eastern Region of India.
ACHIEVEMENTS
