AIM GENESIS
The
Assam Institute of Management (AIM) was established by the Government
of Assam in 1988 as an autonomous management institute. After the
Indian Institute of Social welfare and Business Management (IISWBM) in
West Bengal, AIM is the only State Government sponsored management
institute in the country. The vision for the Assam Institute of
Management is to develop appropriate human resource infrastructure to
meet the growing developmental needs of the strategically located and
resource rich Northeast region of India. For a long time it was
believed that inadequate manpower development of the NE region has been
the cause of the relative underdevelopment of the region. Today, it is
believed that any development process is intractably linked to the
process of management. Countries where management has developed and
grown as a professional discipline have prospered in today’s world.
Therefore, management education, training and development have been
regarded as one of the basic requirements in the development process.
Since its inception, AIM has pioneered world class management education
scenario and executive development in the North-East. A true management
institute has to not only provide management education, but also carry
out research, undertake consultancy works and conduct management
development and training programmes. AIM has excelled in these areas.
It has assisted many Government and semi-government organizations
through management consultancies and studies. Its faculty has won
national laurels in the field of research. The institute has conducted
more than 150 management development programmes with participants from
the State and Central Government departments and undertakings as well
as leading Private Sector organizations. With its multifarious
activities, Assam Institute of Management has been able to carve a
niche for itself in the National Management scenario.
